Assessing the Montevideo IV Programme
Over the last eight years, the Montevideo Programme IV has been responding to the evolving needs of individual countries and the international community in the field of environmental law. Its assessment comes as a result of a resolution adopted in May 2016, during the UN Environment Assembly, inviting Member States to designate national focal points to collaborate with and guide UN Environment in strengthening the application of the programme and to monitor and evaluate its implementation. Experts promote integrated approaches to sustainable development
The UN Office for Sustainable Development and UN Environment jointly organized an Experts Group meeting on ‘Promoting Integrated Approaches to Sustainable Development’ which took place in July 2018 in New York, with the objective to examine in-depth and important pathways to promote integrated approaches to Sustainable Development Goals, which are indivisible and closely interlinked in environmental agendas. Regional collaboration and capacity building to enhance national implementation of global environmental conventions
The Centre for Governance and Sustainability, the University of Massachusetts Boston, UN Environment, and the Governments of Rwanda and Gambia, are in the process of developing case studies to understand how best to implement the global environmental conventions and related targets within the Sustainable Development Goals in Rwanda and Gambia. The decision follows a meeting held in August 2018, in Banjul, Gambia, where national case studies on effective implementation of global environmental conventions were developed. Read more...
